4th annual Free Dogsled Rides & Educational Day for Kids Sunday, March 29th from 11 am till 2 pm.
On Sunday, March 29th from 11 am to 2 pm, bring your children or grandchildren for an experience they will not soon forget. Last year 91 children received rides.
Siskiyou Snow Dog Sporting Association with the support of Dogsled Express Rides and Racing and the Yreka Kiwanis Club are conducting the SSDSA’s 4rth annual Free Kids Ride Day to be held this year at the Dogsled Express rides location between the Mt. Shasta Nordic Center and Mt. Shasta Ski Park on Ski Park Hwy. off of Hwy. 89 between Interstate 5 and McCloud. Rides will begin at 11 am and continue til 2 pm.
This fun and educational event features Dogsled Express mushers Pat Campbell, Rick Cook, and Trevor Mitchell and their highly trained sled dogs giving short rides to children ages 4 through 10. SSDSA and Siskiyou County YMCA volunteers will be turning teams on the short loop trail. Mushers and Skijorers will be attending to the dogs and answering general questions about sled dog sports.
Sign in will begin at 10:30 am. Rides will be given on a first come in first serve basis. Due to limited parking at the new Ski Park Hwy. location, there will be Snow Dog volunteers to help you park. Possible overflow will be handled by issuing numbers at a “Drive-through” and an approximate time to return will be given. So pack a picnic, bring your sleds, skis, and snowshoes for a family snow day!
Children 4 and 5 must be accompanied by an older sibling (6 to 10 years old) or be willing to ride with some other older children. Guardians of all children must sign a Hazardous Sports Release Form for each child.
Thanks to all of our dedicated race sponsors, SSDSA volunteers, and the special financial support of the Yreka Kiwanis Club, the Kids Rides Special Sponsor. Also thanks to the USDA Forest Service Shasta/Trinity National Forest Ranger District for allowing the use of the Snow Park. Dog Sled Express operates under a Special Use Permit by the USDA Shasta Trinity Ranger District.
2007, 2008, and 2009 T-shirts will be for sale along with sodas and snacks. All proceeds from the event will go toward the January 2010 racing event.
