Cain Carter, stepson of the famous Lance Mackey, won the 2009 Jr Iditarod after arriving at the Willow Lake finish at 12:34 p.m.

Carter led the pack smoothly, with a one hour lead on the next finisher – Travis Beals.

Cain Carter received a $5,000 scholarship prize for winning the 2009 Jr Iditarod. He’ll also be given his Championship Trophy at Nome during the Iditarod Finisher’s Banquet.

The Jr Iditarod Sled Dog Race was first established in March of 1978, and has grown to become one of the most well-respected events for Junior aged mushers. This year tracking was also provided by IonEarth GPS systems.
