by Sleddoggin Staff on April 7, 2011

IDITAROD XXXVII Musher Lance Mackey (Bib # 47) just arrived in Anvik Alaska at 12:12 pm Alaska Time with 16 dogs, and is officially the first musher to Reach Mighty Yukon. The Anvik Church bell rang loudly as the two- time Iditarod Champion arrived. Mackey was greeted by well wishers and a seven course meal courtesy of the Millennium Hotel Anchorage, proud “Lead Dog” Partner of “The Last Great Race to Nome.”

As the recipient of the “First Musher to the Yukon Award”, Mackey was treated to an eight course meal prepared on camp stoves by Millennium’s Food and Beverage Director William Wallace. His formally dressed assistant, the Millennium’s General Manager Sue Kenyon, served the ceremonial dinner to Lance.

This year’s menu included Braised Pork Belly, Heirloom Beets Salad, Crab Agnolotti, Alaskan Bouillabaisse, Breast of Duck, Artisan Cheese Plate, Flamed Strawberries Romanoff, and an After Dinner Mint of $3500.00 presented on an “Alaskan Gold Pan” accompanied by a bottle of Dom Perignon.

The Millennium Alaskan Hotel “1st to the Yukon” Award will be re-presented to Mackey in Nome on Sunday, March 22nd, during the Iditarod Awards Banquet at the Nome Recreation Center.
