A “New” Sister Sports Talk Show, The Sport Maverickstm Will Discuss Emotional Intelligence In Sports

Libby Riddle made history when she became the first woman to win the Iditarod Sled Dog Race in Alaska. As an author, she has written several books about her survival on the Alaskan Trail, such as “Race Across Alaska”,”Danger the Dog Yard Cart”, and “Storm Run”. She has been featured in several popular magazines such as Sports Illustrated,Time Magazine, Peoples, Christain Science Monitors and several women and children magazines. She has also appeared on ABC Wide World of Sports, Good Morning America, and ESPN Iditarod Coverage. In addition, she has had several roles in movies: “On Deadly Ground” and “Black Feather” to name a few. As a radio guest host on “Prarie Home Companion Show” and “West Coast Live,” she has the opportunity to promote the sport of Dog Sled Racing to the sportsperson looking for the ultimate challenge–The Iditarod Sled Dog Race.

Libby Riddles will talk about her experiences in living in Alaska year round, and what factors she considered before she made the decision to run the Iditarod. Libby will also talked about what role her mentors play in teaching her how to manage her expectations under pressure. We will asked her how she makes competition “fun,” and not the center of her attention when she enters a dog sled race. We will also asked her, what mental and emotional attributes are needed to run the Iditarod in the rural terrain of the wilderness of Alaska.

She is a Life Skill Speaker that conduct workshops for parents and student-athletes through the Pro-Ready Impact Programs. Muorie also is the creator and principle writer of Sport Maverickstm.”

Co-Host, Elleanor Starks is the mother of a 2004 NFL Rookie, Max Starks of the Pittsburgh Steelers. Through Starks leadership as the President of the Gator Parent Assoication, she and Muorie revamped the GPA and made it a valuable resource for college parents looking to work with compliance in their NCAA school athletic program. She has consulted parents under the GPA standard at the University of Michigan, Florida State University and Wake Forest University. Ms Starks has a long history of involvement in leadership, first as a teacher, a business owner, and the founder of the “One Hundred Black Women of Funeral Services”, an organization that has provided scholarships and assistance to students wishing to join the Funeral Services Industry for over eleven years.

Show Adviser,Henry Lawrence is a graduate of Florida A&M. Henry was drafted by the Oakland Raiders in the first round in 1974, and is a Veteran of Three Superbowls. Henry is a major contributor to the Florida Sheriff’s Ranch Program for trouble youth, and is an accomplished speaker and sport panelist. Henry has served as guest co-host on Sport Maverickstm. Show Adviser, Max Starks is a graduate of the University of Florida. Max is the recepient of the 2004 “Sport Maverick All American Award.” Max was drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the third round in 2004, and he is making a major contribution to the team’s winning effort. In the past, Max was chosen to be a spokesperson and the captain for the Florida Gators on several occasions. This year, Max was selected as the spokesperson for the Steelers’ Rookies at the 2004 NFL Rookie Symposium. Max is an accomplished speaker and spokesperson.
