International “Housewife” Adventurer Launches “Impossible Expedition” Book

by Sleddoggin Staff on November 10, 2011

Oxford  – 3rd November, 2011:  An International ‘housewife’ adventurer has launched a book recounting her  ‘impossible’ 600km dog-sledding expedition through the one of the harshest climates in the world – the Arctic Circle.

Rona Cant (www.ronacant.com), who was once an ‘unexceptional, middle-aged single parent’, changed the direction of her life in 2000 by becoming a round-the-world yachtswoman. When Rona competed in the BT Global Challenge Round the World Yacht Race (the toughest yacht race in the world) her life path changed forever. Since then she has become a highly in demand international motivational speaker, author and adventurer.

Rona’s latest book, ‘SNOW, SLEDS AND SILENCE’ is the story of the Nordkapp Expedition which encapsulates the magic, the tedium and the sheer endurance of working in unfamiliar terrain. It tells of the harshness of the climate, the beauty of being far from the civilized world as we know it, the trust needed to be earnt from the dogs and the realities of working on a daily basis with an ancient form of transport used by an ancient culture, which still survives today.

Record-breaking Adventurer and Explorer, David Hempleman-Adams (www.coldclimates.co.uk) says: “I am delighted to endorse Rona’s amazing account of her experience of going from a housewife out of her comfort zone to completing an ‘impossible’ expedition. This sums up her courage, tenacity and determination. She is an absolute inspiration to us all.”

The book takes the reader on a journey of discovery to experience what is like to inhabit such an (at times) inhospitable land. It is a story of triumph over disaster of three nationalities (a Norwegian ex-Special Forces dog-sled racer, a British round-the-world yachtswoman and a South African mountaineer), who set off on a route experienced mushers in Norway thought was impossible – to the northernmost tip of Europe. It was a race against time, it was exhausting – three different people from three different cultures working together to achieve an impossible goal.

“The Nordkapp Expedition was an incredible experience. They said it couldn’t be done but we did it. Snow, Sleds and Silence is about how anyone, with the right mind-set, the right determination and skills can work together to achieve a goal,” says Rona.

‘Snow, Sleds and Silence’ is published by Libri Publishing (www.libripublishing.co.uk) and is priced at £14.99.
