Technically, yes, as long as the musher has all the requirements to participate. Doubtful that a team of schnauzers would last any length of time.

What do you think? Answer below!

You would probably be able to, but I don’t think that would be a good idea.

It would probably be okay. But alaskan sled dogs are bred for pulling sleds. They have incredible energy, endurance, stength, speed and intelligence. Thats why they would do better than shnauzers. Schnauzers are bred for protection (If we’re talking about giants) and have long legs and stout bodies that aren’t ideal for the vigorous and exhausting climate and hardships of the iditerod.

Maybe Giant Schnauzer yes. There was a guy long ago that raced with a team of standard poodles.

Not that they could not be use for recreation? why not as long as they are not too cold and conditioned correctly it could be lots of fun.
but race, NO

Rule 43 — Dog Description: Only dogs suitable for arctic travel will be permitted to enter the race. Suitability will be determined by race officials.
this is from the Iditarod rules:

And in both races dog must undergo a vet check, where it is highly unlikely any vet would approve of a schnauzer team.

Yukon Quest rules + notes on sled dogs:

It is also highly unlike a team of schnauzers would be capable of attempting to compete at that level, it is simply not what theya re bred to do.
Whereas sled dogs are uniquely bred to do just that:
