Louisville, KY (PRWEB) April 19, 2012
Derby weekend takes off running at The Third Annual Ferdinands Ball, Thursday, May 3 from 7:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m., at The Frazier Museum, 829 West Main Street.
The only Derby party inspired by a desire to help the horses, Ferdinands Ball benefits Old Friends, a facility in Georgetown, KY where thoroughbreds finished with their careers can relax, run and do what they please without fear of being slaughtered or sold.
Founders and sisters Kim Boyle and Aimee Wulfeck Boyle wanted to find a way to protect and care for racehorses after their careers end. The namesake and event itself is in honor of Ferdinand, the 1986 Kentucky Derby winner who was slaughtered overseas.
We have always been passionate about animal rights and spent a lot of time volunteering with different animal rights and rescue organizations, explains Kim Boyle. Ferdinands Ball gives us this amazing opportunity to raise awareness and bring the community together to support a charity like Old Friends.
This year’s host is The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star and former fashion model Brandi Glanville.
The reason we chose Brandi is because of her fun, sweet spirit. We know shell be a welcoming, enjoyable host for our guests,” Kim Boyle said. “She connected with our cause and is sensitive to our mission.
Cocktail frocks and ties are the dress code at Ferdinands Ball, which The Courier-Journal calls it a fresh, unpretentious new breed of Derby party.
In a short time, Ferdinands Ball has become one of the seasons premiere parties, covered in publications from The Los Angeles Times, to The Wall Street Journal and attended and supported by local and international celebrities. This years confirmed guests include NFL Linebacker Dhani Jones, Miss Kentucky Ann Blair Thornton and three-time Derby-winning jockey Kent DesOrmeaux. DesOrmeaux will also be presented with the 2012 Ferdinand Award for his support of Old Friends and the ethical retirement of horses.
Previously, Ferdinands Ball has attracted high-profile animal-conscious guests including 2012 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition cover girl Kate Upton, author, actress and EXTRA host Maria Menounos and Sacramento Kings and University of Kentucky basketball star DeMarcus Cousins.
The dress code is ties and cocktail. After having their car whisked away by a valet, guests enter the party on a red carpet. Doors open at 7:30 p.m. The Ball begins at 8 p.m. with champagne and gourmet appetizers, accompanied by live music in the Fraziers gorgeous rooftop garden, overlooking the Ohio River. Attendees can enjoy one on one time with the celebrity host and guests, sponsors and the others who make the party possible.
At 9 p.m., guests will have the option of relocating into the New York loft-style, brick-walled, colorfully lit upper floor of The Frazier.
Once there, revelers can indulge in treats including filling finger foods from official Ball caterer Mastersons Catering, and specialty Bourbon Balls in Derby-appropriate flavors like Mint Julep and Sweet Tea, from Louisvilles Cellar Door Chocolates. Plus, an open bar offering Bourbon tastings will be available for everyones beverage needs and cocktail cravings. And when the urge to move to the music of cover band The Louisville Crashers, overtakes them, guests can get down on the dance floor.
