How many of you here have arthritic , elderly dogs , i have an 11 yr sibe suka who has severe arthritis in alot of her joints. she limps , can hardly run, shes tried lots of meds , but not much relief from them , at present on cod liver oil caps , had cartrophen jabs , also on previcox tabs ,not a good eater either , her right hip is really bad & has muscle wasting in back legs. she dosen't enjoy swimming , will occassionally go for a walk but would rather just lay around & sleep it seems, i try to get her a bit of exercise daily when she will go. Today shes not eating again , at present we are back & forth to vets , but vet did say we need to think of suka's quality of life at present which isn't nice to think about :(
I am lucky right now as all of my pups are younglings. :)
Also, I am a distributor of Animal Naturals products, and they make an EXCELLENT supplement called K9 Joint Strong. It's a joint support supplement. I have had some excellent reviews from people who use this product. You can check it out at: <!-- m -->http://www.sleddoggin.com/store/index.p ... ucts_id=10<!-- m -->
The great thing about the product is that it works well for dogs that don't respond well to glucosamine. So it works on a greater variety of dogs.
Cheerful Trails,

I had a 15 year old guy that I put down around January. He took glucoseamine with his food every day, and it caused a noticeable difference for the better.
I would say that it is a very personal decision about when you decide to put down your dog. I've seen old dogs suffering tremendously, and older dogs be fine. It just depends. Your dog will let you know. IMO, when a dog isn't enjoying things that they use to, and are just acting sad or sleeping a lot, I would consider putting them down.
well suka has been quite poorly over last few days , being sick , 1 lot had a bit of blood in it so vet gave me some pro-kolin to settle her tummy but still not eating , refusing walks , been sick again too, i have stopped giving her previcox to her incase thats upsetting her but still no change, just laying around sleeping , we are taking her to the vets again tomorrow so will have to decide when we are there what to do really, its very hard though. But shes obviously not happy unless something else may be going on inside but her arthritis is bad at present poor baby. :(

I have a 12 yr old that I think is starting to get arthritis. He has no problems running yet, but just doesnt seem "in to it." He's retired now, and gets his exersize by free running.
Right now I've got him on Missing Link Plus, and will probably suppliment with more glucosamine this fall/winter (and then probably contine with that for rest of his life)
