Getting Started
This is a simple little
tutorial that will help to give you the general workings on how to get up and running with a new blog. If you have any
further questions that aren’t covered here, feel free to email us at:
href="mailto:[email protected]">[email protected]
needed.
Sign Up & Create
To begin you can either sign up for an account with a blog, or
sign up with an account with no blog attached. (The reason for having just an account with no blog, would to be able to post
comments to other’s blogs, etc…) The page where you sign up is located here: http://sleddoggin.com/blogs/wp-signup.php
When choosing your account name, remember that the name you
choose will also be the name of your blog. So if you were to choose the username “dog,” for example, your blog would be
located at http://www.sleddoggin.com/blogs/dog/ Also remember that you are
allowed to make more than one blog if needed in the future. After you choose your username, enter in a valid email address.
Remember to double check your email and be sure that it is correct, as your activation code will be emailed to
it.
After you have entered in this information, your next step will be to choose a blog name. This is the name of the
blog that will be on the page headers, etc…and it can be changed later if needed. At this point you also have the option of
making your blog public or private. We recommend leaving this option checked for a public blog.
One you have then
clicked sign up, a confirmation email will be sent to the email address that you provided (usually this is instant, but be
sure to check your spam folders if you didn’t receive the emai). Remember that if you don’t click on the activation link
within this email in two days, you will have to re-make your blog.
You can enter the activation key into your browser,
which will then take you to a confirmation page where your password will be displayed. Remember to save your password to log
into your blog for the first time. (You will be able to change your password later.)
Congradulations! You have
successfully built your very own blog. You can now login, and follow the rest of the tutorial for customization procedures
and more!
Customization & Options
Once you have logged into your blog for the first time,
you will be taken to a blog Dashboard. This will be your admin interface where you will control everything from
user
comments, to blog themes. The first step we recommend you take is changing your password to the password you desire, other
than the automatically built password you were sent earlier. To get to the biography/user information area, go to USERS -
> EDIT. (You will find the EDIT button next to your name on the far right.) Once you have arrived at the editing
destination, you can change your password, contact info, names, and even write a little bio about yourself for your blog
viewers. Once you have changed your password, you can then change your Theme (blog layout) to a style that matches what you
like best. To get to the theme interface, just go to PRESENTATION -> THEMES. Here you can click on the theme that you
would like, and your blog will automatically change for you. You can change your blog style whenever needed.
Be sure
to also take a look at the different Plugins that are offered. You can find them by going to PLUGINS. Here you will find a
range of special add ons/plugins that you can put onto your site to make it more dynamic and
interesting.
Conclusion
We hope that you have learned enough from our simple tutorial to get
started with your new blog, and that you will have a lot of fun creating a great place on the web for any
use that you may
have of it.
Have a wonderful day, and happy blogging!
