Are you joking with me? Or are you being serious? You know, training carts, rigs, using ATV's to train sled dogs, its all dryland. Even Bikejoring.

That's great! Of course you can learn here. I am looking into having one of our metal workers in town make me a custom cart.

I have a three wheeled cart for training small teams. I don't have enough dogs to bother with an ATV.

I'm considering trying a dryland race.

I compete in Dryland for about 10 years. In Portugal 90% of the races are in Dryland with rigs/carts, bikes ans scooters. Racing in snow is wonderful but we also have a lot of pleasure racing in Dryland. Portugal has beautiful dryland trails ( across woods and forests) and after all this years we became experts in this kind of mushing and races. I have two 3-wheeled rigs (one heavier for the trainings, and one other lighter, for the racing).

That is really cool. I didn't even know how there was mushing in Portugal. So how many mushers are in your country?

In Portugal there are more or less 50 active mushers ( 6-dog class, 4-dog class, Bikejoring/Skijoring and Cani Cross ) . It's a small country and more appreciated for the warm climate and beaches, but the musher community is very "addicted" to this sport and a few years ago we could found a National Federation.
We have some good teams here, able to compete in the sprint international circuit, but due to Portugal's location it's difficult to travel to the most known/important mushing events/competitions.When the 2nd IFSS Dryland World Championship was held in Spain ( near Portugal) we participate with 23 teams among the 140 that were there, and we got good marks ( including a 3rd position, in the 4-dog Class general classification and a 2nd position in the Pure Breed 6-dog Class classification) !

I've only ever done Dryland! LOL Since we've had the dogs (Just over 2 Years), we've not had any snow... Well a couple flakes but no covering.

LOL @ Loxley.
Same here.. We got a nice amount of snow last season, but we never got out in it. I dont even own a sled! Me and my mentor were going to run a few dogs on her sleds, but we never got out of the house.

While we get snow here, it rarely comes straight down, so I usually dont have enough to run the sled. (I run on our road, and everything is flat and treeless so the snow just blows away.) So, alot of the time, I'm using the bike or ATV. I still get to the use the sled a few times a year. I dont mind that much, the bike is fun. (s_green)

Hi all,

We race Dryland here in the UK. Our 3 wheeled carts are called 'RIGS'. We have two 3 wheeled rigs from CUDOS (the heritage & Cudos) and they also do a 4 wheeled called a Quadrigga! These are all made from stainless steel. If you go onto our website (<!-- m -->http://www.snowpawz.co.uk<!-- m -->) and look in 'rally results' you will see our rigs. We also have the website for Cudos on our LINKS Page. There is a short video of the Quadrigga on the Cudos site.
The Cudos Heritage is a good rig for beginner mushers, experienced mushers and also training. The Cudos rig is a lot lighter and for people with more experience on the trails.

Our dogs are reaching speeds of 23mph on parts of the trails, faster teams even higher than that. Adrenaline rush comes to mind!
We also have classes for the kids called Junior mushing. The ages start from 8-1yrs with 1 dog and then 12-15yrs with 2 dogs. This is ran over approx 1 mile. Adult classes start from 16 yrs of age and upwards. We also have Scooter classes with 1 dog. If we are extremely lucky and have a good snow fall, we can get sleds out. (Not that lucky).
