I have a 11 month old Alaskan Malamute. We have started command training right from the start. She knows he gee's and haw's pretty well but the problem I am having is when we are out running, she NEVER wants to lead. She will always lag behind trying to sniff and bite at the nature that surrounds her. My girlfriend will run in front when she is available and Maya will then take a lazy lead but nothing to the point of a line-out. We did a 5k road race recently and she did fairly well with the lead as well there because of the runnners ahead of us.

Is there anything I can do to teach her to stay ahead of me at all times, or is this just an immaturity piece that will come as she matures over time?
