What do the dogs need to know before being hooked up to a sled?
My whole "team" of dogs is new to sledding. Does atleast one need to know Gee, Haw, before I try to run them? Do I need to use those Commmands? All my dogs know "leave it" which would = "On by" Or "Up Up" Instead of "Line out"/strat running. Ex. When running with my dogs I say "up up" and they will remove all slack in the leash causing them to run faster. If i say "leave it" they stop paying attention to whatever it is they wanted (Most of the time.)
Should I start all of them out by getting them to pull a tire?
How do I control dog aggression while sledding? I have one dog, Hailey, who is only okay with a select few dogs. She is also a breedest...If I can hook her next to a dog she is okay with, how do I keep her from going after the dog behind/infront of her?
As for the Musher:
What is the proper stance? Bent knees and a death grip on the handle? lol
How often should the dogs be waterd and stopped for a bathroom break?
If you take the dogs on a mile long trail, how much of that mile is the musher running with the team? Do you start off running?
How may dogs do you need to pull a sled?
What is a good distance to strat training the dogs at?
I know a LOT of questions...sorry if this is all posted in the wrong spot. But any advice would be great. Thanks in advance!
