According to an article by the New York Times, Dr. Michael S. Davis from Oklahoma State University, was given a $1.4 million grant in 2003 by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency to study the metabolic wonders in working sled dogs.

The goal of Dr. Davis' project is to use the information gained from sled dog study - and use it to further advance human combat soldier's ability to resist fatigue on the battlefield.

Texas A&M researchers are also teaming up with Dr. Davis along with a $300,000 Darpa grant - and have been routinely traveling to Alaska for sled dog research.
