What inspired you to start building sleds and equipment?

When I starting running sprint races, I became acquainted with Mel and Lee Fishback mushers and authors fromCalifornia. Mel wrote numerous articles about training dogs, Lee was a sprint racer and sled builder, and Mel made ZIMA x-back harnesses (the original x-back harness we still make).

Lee Fishback passed away unexpectedly and Mel tried to run their harness and sled business. She offered me an opportunity to purchase the sled-making business and she continued making harnesses and other products. When I purchased the sled business, Lee made only one style of sled.. I currently make 22 types of sleds and add new designs each year. Shortly after taking over the sled-making business, Mel sold us the harness business and we have been Adanac Sleds & Equipment ever since, selling everything you need for running sled dogs.

Our 40 page catalog and website have expanded greatly from Mel’s two-page catalog. We keep current with the needs of our customers and love to hear from them.
