Posted on September 1st, 2010 in Business by iptools  Tagged , ,

A enterprise name could be a large factor within the ultimate success or failure of the entity. Unfortunately, many people fail to provide a number of thought to it prior to shifting forward. There are many factors to contemplate including one thing memorable, a reputation related to your space of labor and, potentially, the supply of the domain name.

Married?

Selecting a business name is like getting married. You are going to have to keep it up until the bitter end. It’s estimated a prospect might want to see your commercial and enterprise name at the very least 22 instances prior to doing enterprise with you. Once they affiliate what you are promoting with a sure name, making a change can be disastrous. When you decide one thing, follow it.

Naming Your Business

If you will be married to your small business name, it’s essential to be certain that the bride isn’t already married to a different suitor. There are 4 significant points to consider.

Initially, you should determine whether or not the name is already being utilized in your state. The Secretary of State controls the names of all firms, LLCs and partnerships. Most also have a web site where you can conduct identify searches. Even in case you are a sole proprietor, you must check the identify towards those already registered within the state database. If the title is getting used, you’ll need to contemplate an alternative.

Assuming the identify handed must with the Secretary of State, it’s best to examine it towards existing trademarks file with the Patent and Trademark Office. The “PTO” maintains an internet database. As with the Secretary of State, you can conduct a web based search to verify no different business is using it.

These days, many businesses incorporate a web page as a part of their business model. If you’re in this boat, you should test to see if the business title is on the market as a domain. If it is, it is best to register it immediately. If not, you’ll be able to both change your small business name once more or concentrate on a site title incorporating your service or product as an alternative of the business name.

Avoiding Issues

You business might be devastated if you do not take these precautionary steps. Imagine the damaging influence on what you are promoting if the name must be modified three years down the line. Take a breath earlier than you choose a business name. Like a partner, it may be both a superb or bad choice.

The Moment Of Resolution

Leadership Workshop (5 of 12) - Manage Decisions Well

Leading at Light Speed is a groundbreaking leadership book by Eric Douglas describing the 10 Quantum Leaps which build trust, spark innovation, and create a high-performing organization. In Chapter 4 Eric discusses the Point of Resolve.

“The point of resolve” is the moment when an individual or a group summons up the will to make a tough decision. We risk losing it all, or gaining significantly.. But at some point the door opens, you make the decision, and suddenly it’s behind you. Ahead of you are the consequences. But for the moment, you are at the point of resolve.

When we need to make difficult choices, we have hundreds of factors to take into consideration.. The tide can drag us under. The process can feel out of control. Eventually we reach our point of clarity.. Once you break through, you’re past the moment of resolve and into implementation mode. There’s no turning back.

To be a valuable leader, you must enlighten others about these moments of decision.. People need to know you’ve made a tough decision, that you’ve committed to a course of action, and that there’s no turning back. People look for signs of resolve in their leaders – it builds trust to know that their leaders are willing to make tough stands.

Once a conclusion is drawn, there’s a vital ground rule that must be followed: everyone must stand together in holding the decision, even if you previously opposed it.. The ground rule must be apparent: once the choice is made, everyone must stand by it.. Leaders who want to build trust enforce this ground rule and make no exceptions.

Communicate the Results

At some point, the decision is made. The next step is telling people the results and explaining the rationales behind the decision. Surprisingly, this is where a lot of decision processes break down. You may be done, but others are still in the dark. A complex choice affects a variety of people.. I’ve never witnessed a situation where people mistakenly broadcast a decision too widely.. On the other hand, I’ve seen countless examples of failing to let key people know what happened.

Don’t forget to publicly recognize everyone involved. Small tokens of appreciation – a team t-shirt, a team photo– are important symbols of having participated in an important decision. It’s the small things that count, that can stand for grand gestures and show people what they need to build trust.

Once the decision is made, there’s one more thing you should do. You should gather together the individuals involved and collaborate with them on how well the decision was managed. What worked well? And how could it be better managed the next time? This feedback may seem unnecessary – but believe me, you will glean things that can help you improve all your future decision processes.

Management Style Of Leading Through Others

Leadership Workshop (4 of 12) - Lead Through Others

Leading at Light Speed is an excellent leadership book by Eric Douglas showing you step-by-step how to implement 10 Quantum Leaps that build trust, spark innovation, and create a high-performing organization.

Quantum Leap #3 is all about Leading Through Others.

To maximize your impact, you have to lead through others. As a leader it is imperative to recruit and hire the right players, delegate responsibility to them, and make sure they have the tools to succeed. It also means getting rid of players who fail to adapt successfully. Each player on the court needs to elevate the others, especially in this technology driven environment. Taking to heart the habits of greatly successful teams is necessary. Effective leaders keep an eye on team dynamics, they bench players who refuse to progress, and give starting positions to those who come ready to play.

Giving the secret to her cooking, renowned chef Alice Waters often said, “always start with the right ingredients.” When asked why he liked combining one or two superstars with a bunch of younger, unknown players, L.A. Lakers basketball coach Phil Jackson said: “They elevate each other’s game.”

“Get the right people on the bus,” is how Jim Collins puts it. You can only lead successfully if you find the right people and give them what they need to do their jobs right. Admittedly that’s easy to say and hard to do. This chapter offers some of the tricks. It is about a shift in logic – from thinking about yourself to leading through others. Using the example of Wells Fargo and Bank of America, Jim Collins illustrates the dramatic difference.

In the 1970s and 1980s, Bank of America and Wells Fargo Bank had similar revenues and profit margins. Bank of America was directed by a leader who, by dint of his strong personality and commanding nature, had assembled a passive team of “yes men.” Ahead of the curve, Wells Fargo CEO, Dick Cooley, was able to gather together one of the most dynamic management teams in the industry. At Wells Fargo, people posed tough questions to one another and weren’t afraid to challenge the status quo. They felt free to challenge each other’s thinking. Better relationships are founded on mutual trust not with fear and intimidation.

In the early 1980s, banking deregulation took place, triggering a revolution in the industry. The industry’s established profit margins were in jeopardy. Wells Fargo’s management team saw the changes coming and focused on cutting costs. They recognized that banking was becoming a commodity business, with thinner profit margins than before. “Run it like you own it,” became their mantra. In contrast, BofA reacted slowly. The country club culture continued over time. Not one person challenged the status quo. The outcome? From 1983-1998, a fifteen-year period, Wells Fargo’s stock outdid BofA’s by 500%.

“We” leaders surround themselves with the right people. They have sense enough to pick good people and to know what needs to be done, and self-restraint enough to keep from meddling with them while they do it. We leaders aren’t focused on controlling every decision. Their goal is to delegate. When people are empowered, they feel free to engage and ask tough questions and air conflicting opinions. Good leaders have the perspective that such an environment is a positive sign of change, and welcome this kind of friction to cultivate new ideas.

Typical Mistakes That Occur In Delegating

Posted on July 25th, 2010 in Uncategorized by iptools  Tagged , , ,

Leadership Workshop (4 of 12) - Lead Through Others

Leading at Light Speed is a must-have leadership book by Eric Douglas highlighting the 10 Quantum Leaps to build trust, spark innovation, and create a high-performing organization. Chapter 3 covers how to Lead Through Others..

How you delegate speaks volumes about your leadership. If you do not delegate enough then trust suffers, and the company can’t move at light speed. When there’s an overabundance of delegation, people will point fingers of blame at you. Let’s look at some of the common mistakes made in delegating:

Being unclear about outcomes:
As part of delegating, it’s your responsibility to tie your expectations to the company’s core values, vision, and goals. It is important to utilize your strategic focus and strategic plan. If you simply throw a percentage at a manager such as, “We need to cut your budget by 10 percent,” she’ll be clueless as to where to start. What if she unwittingly chops a program that is critical to another department? Without knowing the priorities and long-term outcomes, it’s nearly impossible to make the right call.

Being unclear about quality:
It’s not fair to ask for a Rolls Royce on an Escort budget. In order to be an effective leader, you must have concrete examples of what you want, in order to clearly share your vision with others. Is this a report?

Then follow up by showing them an example. Is this the unveiling of a new product? Cite an example of a past success. Any time spent clarifying your expectations will come back to you in spades in time saved putting out fires down the road.

Being unclear about the input level needed is crippling. You must provide guidance as to how much input to collect.

Here are three factors to weigh:

• How important is this decision – relative to other change initiatives in our organization?
• Relating to our customers, how many will be affected?
• Relative to our employess, how many people will be impacted?

Using these three criteria, you can assess how much input is needed.
The table here shows how one manager assessed the impact of a decision about opening a new office in another state. In this instance, the score indicated to her that high levels of input gathering were necessary.

What Are The Benefits Of Sale Training

Posted on June 10th, 2010 in Business by iptools  Tagged , , ,

If you’ve noticed that sales in your business are lagging, then it may be time for sale training refresher courses for your staff. As with any trade, salespeople sometimes need to refresh their skills and learn new techniques that they can use with potential clients. As an employer, you can either conduct an in-house sales training seminar or employ the services of a sales training consultant. In this article, we’ll look at the benefits of this kind of program and how it can boost sales and employee relations.

Whether you’re selling health care, insurance, retail or any other product, without providing sale training seminars to your sales team, your business will not be successful. In today’s competitive market, you have to use every advantage that you can get over the competition. This is why a thorough sales training program makes so much sense to both small and large companies. Regular business sales training and sales management training seminars should address the specific needs of your market and instruct employees on effective sales techniques. This is also an opportunity to address the concerns and challenges that your salespeople face. For example, they may need more information about your product. It is important for company management to carefully consider their training needs before deciding on the right sales training course.

When considering sales training seminars, it is also vitally important to think carefully about which employees need to be trained. A growing number of companies include support staff, customer service reps and management in their sales skills training. This is smart thinking because anyone who has contact with the client has the potential to make a sale. For example, a customer service representative addressing a client who is dissatisfied with a product should know how to recommend another product that you provide. This will not only result in a satisfied customer but you likely won’t lose a sale either.

Many people do not believe in sale training resourcefulness but convincing consumers to purchase your product is a skill. Like any other skill, it must be developed and continuously perfected. True professionals know this and study and practice the skills proven to be effective and continue sales training throughout their careers. Techniques are not tricks. Consumers are smart and aren’t likely to part with their hard earned cash just because you promise them the stars. The first step in successful sales is personal attention. Don’t be flipping through messages on your PDA while with a customer. Besides being horribly rude, it sends the message that you don’t care. Secondly, know when to approach a potential client. Calling in the middle of the day when they are busy is like begging to be hung up on. Finally, the key to closing a sale is negotiating the agreement to satisfy the customer. Prepare a deal that is simply irresistible to the customer.

One important skill that is taught in sale training workshops and seminars is patience. Time is money, but you won’t make any commissions by pressuring or bullying a customer. High pressure sales tactics just look bad on you and the company you represent. Take the time to address your customer’s concerns and needs and you’ll have a customer who will be happy to give you repeat business. As a salesperson, that’s the ideal goal.

Know The Best Tips For Sales Management Training

Posted on June 10th, 2010 in Business by iptools  Tagged , , ,

Fostering a good relationship between management and workers is a critical part of creating and maintaining a company that will be competitive in today’s sluggish economy. This is why many companies are investing in sales management training for their staff. Besides teaching new sales skills, a good sales training program should give management staff in depth education on dealing with communications and motivating employees to maximize their resources. However, companies must make the effort to provide sales training that will address their own specific needs. In this article, we’ll talk about ways to train your staff in a financially feasible way.

Organizations that do spend money on sales management training tend to allocate it to their middle and senior managers. This is an error for a number of reasons. Firstly, lower level management is usually comprised of people who work directly with sales and production staff - the bread and butter of any company. Consequently, it’s critical that these managers develop their sales abilities and are well skilled in motivating workers. Secondly, limiting training to upper management creates an ‘us versus them’ mentality. We’ve seen the damage that this can cause to a company, especially in a unionized environment. Labor disputes can be very costly and this is something that you must avoid. Lastly, increasing sales should be the responsibility of every single worker from office staff to on-site service workers. By involving everyone in sales training, you are giving your company more opportunities to increase revenue.

Investing in business sales training programs can be more financially beneficial than any cost cutting measures a company can undertake. Selling can be very difficult, but some individuals can make it look very easy. These individuals know how to communicate and won’t be intimated by potential customers nor will they come across as pushy. Sometime an overzealous manager who is determined to improve sales can set unrealistic targets. The result can be salespeople who are so desperate to reach quotas that they end up alienating customers with high pressure sales tactics. Instead, set standards for your sales team that are high but still attainable. Teach your sales associates to put the customer’s wants and needs as the starting point of any sales conversation. Teach them to listen carefully to customer’s needs and cater their approach to them. Most customers will be looking for products that save them time and money, so prepare your staff with a number of sales points ahead of time that demonstrate how those needs will be filled.

Today’s consumer is very well educated and most will comparison shop before making a purchase. This is why salespeople need to know the competition. For example, if you work for car manufacturer “A”, knowing what car manufacturer “B” offers will enable you to point out how your own product is superior. If you know ahead of time that price may be a sticking point, then teach your sales associates to explain that benefits gained are well worth the extra cost. In addition, have your sales associates promote extras, such as after-sales service. Planned responses that include data, statistics and customer testimonials will encourage customers to trust you, and thus improve the chance of making a sale.

Knowledge is power, so it’s vital for every company to invest in sales management training. Your managers must always be up-to-date on sales techniques and methods of communicating them to sales staff. Their knowledge also needs to be communicated to potential clients. Not giving a customer the information they need or giving them inaccurate information reflects badly on your company, so make sure that every single employee is prepared to address the needs of your customers.

Back Pain: A Common Ailment In The US

Posted on May 7th, 2010 in Uncategorized by iptools  Tagged , , , ,

Back pain affects 80 percent of the American public. That most likely includes you, too. The intensity of the pain differs from person to person with some suffering acute pain with no relief. The worse the pain and the longer it lasts the more it restricts movement and activities.

What should you do if you are suffering from back pain? The simplest remedy is to take ibuprofen or another pain remedy to help you function throughout the day. Be sure to take a tablet just before you go to bed as well. It will help you relax and get a good night’s sleep. Many times just that alone will stop the aching in your back.

Have you considered seeing a physical therapist in your search for relief? Did you know a physical therapist can help you with back pain? Many jobs in physical therapy are created each year just by the need patients have to get relief from back pain. Incredibly, only 20 percent of the American population doesn’t suffer from this type of pain.

Physical therapy jobs are available in all parts of the United States. Physical therapy has become such a need that any young person interested in a health career might consider it. They can get a certificate or a full degree to work in this field. After graduation, you won’t have a problem finding a Physical therapy job.

Physical therapy treatments for back pain are of two types: things that are done to the patient, and things that the patient must do for himself. The most important job of the therapist is to teach the patient why they have the pain and what they can do to prevent it in the future.

One way to rejuvenate the spine is through back exercises. The goal is to condition, strengthen and stretch the muscles in order to get them in shape. Most back pain is a direct result of muscles that are out of shape because of a lack of exercise.

Passive physical therapy is something done to the patient. This can include such treatments as massage, ice or heat packs and/or ultrasound. These things work effectively for less serious types of back pain. They may, also, be used in conjunction with back exercises.

Physical therapy is an effective way to provide relief from all types of back muscle related problems. In some cases the pain will be relieved right away, and other times it will be necessary to do a series of treatments. Whatever the case may be, the relief you will feel will allow you to function in a relatively normal way.
