I have been getting questions regarding the online petition, and the thought that you must pay before your signature is recorded. This donation is NOT part of the Dog Mushing Merit Badge, and is just a generic donation page for the E-Petition host website. You do not have to pay this fee, and you can close out of the window after you have signed the petition.
Hope this answers some of your questions.

Norma and all, I just got off the phone with Dr. Steve Bowen, the Eagle Scout turned Iditarod Volunteer Veterinarian, regarding the Dog Mushing Merit Badge idea!! I had mailed him my entire packet developed over the past six years so that he would know where I was coming from. He told me that he too had this same idea in 2006, not knowing that someone else was working on it. Dr. Bowen is on THE committee that approves new merit badges! But he was not at the committee meeting where this was turned down the first time. While the conversation was great and I gave him as much background and a dose of my enthusiasm as I could, he said not to get my hopes up. He feels that the interest would be limited in certain areas of the country and so forth. He did say that it could possibly become a regional badge to go along with the mushing at the High Adventure Camp in Ely, MN http://ntier.org/okpik.html (scroll down to Musher Camp) or even as a subcategory of the Snow Sports Merit Badge. <sigh> At least I feel like someone finally listened!! Keep your fingers crossed!

The E-Petition in support of the Dog Mushing Merit Badge has been up and running since around 12pm this afternoon, and already tonight we are at over 50 signatures! I just want to congratulate everyone who has signed the petition, and for all of those who have sent the petition to friends and family. If each person would endorse and send the petition to everyone they know, I feel that we could easily reach 1,000 signatures in the next couple of weeks. In fact, let’s make it a goal to get a whopping 1,000 signatures in only 10 days!
I will keep everyone updated on the signature amount from day to day.
Keep the signatures coming, and be sure to spread the word! If you haven’t already, take the time to visit our How Can You Help? page. You will find awesome information about how to support the merit badge on the web page.
Brenda and I would like to thank all those who are helping with the merit badge, and appreciate every little bit of help.
All it takes is one vote to change the world.
Cheerful Trails,
Christian

We have done it! The online petition is now available to sign for support of the Boy Scout Dog Mushing Merit Badge!
You can view and sign the petition at: http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/dmmbsp/index.html
When signing the petition you will have the option to not display your name to the public. All other personally identifiable information will not be displayed to the public.
Every signature counts! Get your parents, children, aunts, uncles, friends, colleagues, etc…to sign the petition. On the petition website you will also find the option to send the petition to friends and family via email. Please use this feature!
The more signatures the better, and if we get enough; this merit badge will have an even greater chance of being accepted as an official Boy Scout merit badge!
We thank you for your support, and appreciate all of your actions to help support our cause.
Sincerely,
The Dog Mushing Merit Badge Project Managers
