Race Entry in, Speed training

This morning, two good things happened! Number one, I got my race entry in for the dryland race in Buena Vista, CO on November 10/11. I’ll be running in the 1/2 dog bikejor class on a 3 mile trail. I’ll be running Elmo, and one of Mike “Lowdog” Sullivan’s older leaders to help with passing.

Also, we had a great run this morning. The past few runs I’ve been working on speed training with Elmo. Today, instead of letting the line go slack while loping, he was driving hard and pulling. Training is going great! And, it was dark enough to use my new LED headlamp. The headlamp was nice to have so I can see when a rabbit jumps across the trail!

Scooter Run

We normally drive the truck about 2-3 miles to get to the good dirt training trails. Well, today we couldn’t use the truck and had to use the car. The bike won’t fit in the trunk of the car, so I broke out the scooter and loaded it up. I normally don’t use the scooter, because the bike is easier to help with. I planned a short 2.2 mile run. We got to the training trail, hooked up, and off we went. The first 3/4 of the run went great, he pulled and listened to commands. Then a rabbit decided to jump out in front of us right as we were going by. Elmo’s 6-8 mph trot turned into a 15 mph lope. After the rabbit found a bush to hide in, he settled back into his trot and off we went. The rest of the run was uneventful, but it was a rush once the rabbit jumped in front of us.

Camp Hale, Training, and Computer Problems

Last weekend, (10/6,10/7) we went down to Camp Hale for a training weekend and campout. I got to run some real racing dogs for Mike “Lowdog” Sullivan and go ATV training with Mark Stephens. I also got some great runs in on Elmo (my dog). On Saturday night it snowed about 3″. Sunday morning we ran Elmo on a short trail, and left.

This past Tuesday, Elmo and I did a 6 mile bikejor. It was only supposed to be 4 miles, but we made a wrong turn and went 6. He did great, but was pretty tired after.

Our internet has been out the last few days, so I haven’t had a chance to get on lately.

P.S. Pictures of Elmo and I should be up within the next few days.

Introduction

Hi, my name is Dillon. I live in North-Central Colorado with my boxer/black lab. So far we have run up to 5 miles while bikejoring. We bikejor, canicross, and will hopefully skijor this winter. Within the next month or two, some more dogs should be added to the mix.
