While Georgia may not be a typical location for a sled dog kennel, I had to make do with where I was. Growing up here in the woods of Northwest GA, I created my micro-kennel, Wolf Moon. I am fortunate enough to have a 3-mile loop trail right behind our house. Although it is mainly used as an ATV trail, I have been allowed to run it the past few years and we logged quite a few miles with Calypso (currently the only husky in the kennel) and the scooter. There are also trails running across the loop that are fun. There are some nice dirt roads below the house where we run.
I also trained on nearby National Forest roads and have been using trails on a local college campus. In fact, I have been delighted to find other dryland mushers in the area to run with.
Although we have very little snow at the kennel, sometimes there is more in Northeast Georgia and we have traveled there to sled. Snow here is always beautiful and I love listening to the forecasts when Winter weather was predicted.

Wolf Moon Kennel is now my Summer home and I do not go for long runs as it is too warm during these months. We still get out early and scooter but not for the long distances we used to run in the Wintertime. However, I consider the kennel a success since I have shown people that you can be a musher and live in the South. It’s great for people who just want to persue the sport as a hobby and I am proud that I have promoted that with Wolf Moon.
However, for those like myself who want to go farther with the sport, we find we must head North to snow country to really persue our dreams. So that is why I cannot continue to stay here all the time and why I’m headed to Minnesota for the Winter. But Northwest Georgia is where I made my start with Wolf Moon Kennel.
