How Can You Sell Stuff Online?

Posted on June 30th, 2010 in Uncategorized by iptools  Tagged , ,

In no time at all, the internet has swept the world and is now our greatest means of communication. There is nothing we don’t do online anymore. It runs the gamut from sharing information to online shopping. One aspect of the online world we often overlook, though, is selling things online.

Many people get a Google adsense account on their blog, hoping to make a little money on the side. After awhile, they barely notice it, other than to occasionally wonder how Google manages to place ads that are related to their blog posts. They don’t sell anything, though and even if they did, the commission amounts to pocket change at best.

The general attitude is that unless you’ve got a lot of money and an established name, you can’t make money online. A company that makes men’s watches will make money online because the only reason people go to their site is to buy their watches. The website is just an incidental marketing tool for them.

The ‘rest of us’ don’t try because they don’t think it’s worth the effort. They may briefly try selling online, but when nothing comes of it, they stick with their day job and forget about selling online.

Still others are social media purists who believe that trying to sell things on their blog would somehow sully it. They are focused on socializing and don’t want to ‘hustle.’ That’s just fine, but there is another way to look at what they’re doing.

Let’s take the example of a young woman who shares celebrity gossip and fashion news on her blog. She is always promoting products on her blog, even though she may not be trying to. She buys a new crystal necklace that she loves so much she takes a picture of it and uploads it to her blog. She’ll write a post about it and mention the brand and where you can buy it. It’s a good bet that some of her readers will want to buy one, too.

She has just done the most effective kind of advertising there is - word of mouth. Yet, because she doesn’t have an affiliate link with the seller, she does not get a cut of the profits. That company may not even have an affiliate link, but if they did or if she did some research and found a way to profit from her free advertising, she could make a well earned commission from her blog.

All it takes is a little research and she could be making extra money doing what she is so good at. When she writes a blog post about the latest shirts for girls, she could find a way to make her backlinks pay, rather than just offer her services to the manufacturer for free. If you’ve got a blog, don’t make that mistake. Make it pay.

Every person who hopes to make money with Internet Marketing knows how important keywords are. If you don’t, you can forget about being successful. Keywords are what drives visitors to our sites and allow us to make money online fast. A site that is not keyword optimized is a site that’s not making money.

Checking up on your keywords is critical in maintaining your edge as an Internet Marketer. Just because you had some keywords at one time that brought in traffic, doesn’t mean they will always be popular. That’s one reason you should take the time to stop and check on your keywords.

The amount of time we have to work on our sites is limited, so it’s important we spend that time wisely. A lot of marketers don’t realize they’re spending time optimizing their websites for keywords that are no longer able to make money. For example, it wouldn’t do you much good to be working on keywords about Christmas in the middle of March. No one is looking to buy Christmas gifts at Easter.

Smart marketers check their keywords often because they will find new keywords that will help them make money with the Internet. For example, before MySpace came about, do you think anyone was optimizing their sites for MySpace Layouts? Continually ditching old keywords that do not make money and optimizing your site for new ones that do will guarantee you income for a long time.

While some niche keywords just disappear, other change to reflect the times. You’ll need to be on the watch for this. It just makes good business sense to cull these old, non producing keywords out of your list. It just doesn’t pay to keep non profitable keywords around. You’ll just waste time and money by continually optimizing pages for them.

To be consistently profitable, you’ll need to ever watchful over your keyword list, getting rid of ones that are no longer searched for and replacing them with hot new keywords everyone is using. Let your competition optimize their site for keywords that no longer bring in visitors!

Blogging is a great way to make money online even if you’re totally new. If you’re new to blogging and yet want to start quickly, there are several business models you can try for maximum results in a short time. This article discussed the three most popular methods.

The first method is get paid to blog. Create your first blog and start adding some decent article to it. Then you signup with paid blogging networks like Pay Per Post or Review Me and see what “opportunities” are available. These networks are filled with advertisers looking for blogger who can help them spread the word, and they are willing to pay. Accept the opportunity, write about it on your blog, and you get paid.

The second method is AdSense WordPress blogs and it requires a little more technical know-how. You need to build a WordPress blog on a specific niche topic, and start writing some good content on it. Once you’re done, leave comments on other blogs to get some important one-way links. The objective is to get more traffic who will click on your AdSense ads and make you money.

The third and most sophisticated method is affiliate marketing with WordPress blogs. Again, you set-up a good WordPress blog but with this model the amount of content you publish is not as important as the “selling quality” of the content. Each post you write must pre-sell the web visitor and convince him to click on your affiliate links. When the visitor makes a purchase online after that, you get credited for the sale and earn commissions.

Ultimately, which model you choose depends on how much time and resources you can dedicate to creating and managing your blogs. Your best bet is to choose a low-investment option at first. When you get the hang of it, you can venture into other blogging models as well.
