Well we have had snow, snow, snow for the last few days. Not snow like we have during the Winter but heavy wet snow like I have seen (rarely) in the Southeast. It’s been beautiful but just about as wet as rain. There are several inches on the ground outside now.

I have signed up for the 10-dog, 130-mile Wolftrack Classic sled dog race next March. Here is the complete list of entrants for that race and the 6-dog, 30-miler.

Fun Times At MCK

Location: Finland, MN
Time - 3:34 Central Daylight Time
Temperature: 36 degrees F (2 C)
Conditions: Mostly cloudy, windy
Forecast: Snow showers today and tomorrow. Highs in the 30s, lows in the 20s

The above picture shows what I woke up to YESTERDAY morning. I walked outside to a dusting of snow all over everything. The sky had been clear when I had walked over to the bunkhouse the night before - the stars gorgeous. But clouds rolled in during the night and delivered us our first snow of the season.

It disappeared fast and by last night the sky was clear once again. And once again, clouds rolled in during the night. Clouds filled with snow. Because this morning I opened the door to a couple of inches of fresh snow - and still falling. It was 22 degrees f and shaping up to be a great day.

So on this October day we can almost pretend it is Winter. We did some longer runs and have been having a blast. The dogs are loving the weather as much as we are!

Above is Jen and Phil running a team down our road this morning.

Me being goofy over by the bunkhouse

A certain individual put this message on Shuttlecraft (my car)…

…But I retaliated by decorating that certain individual’s vehicle!

Calypso in the snow

Susan peeking out of her house this morning. She was much happier to see the snow than she looks in this picture.

And last but not least we have Kim dressed up as a ninja, showing off her ninja moves in the snow between the bunkhouse and the kennel.

I’m Back!

Location: Finland, MN
Time - 3:54pm Central Daylight Time
Temperature: 45 degrees F (7 C)
Conditions: Cloudy, raining
Forecast: Showers today, cloudy tomorrow. Lows in the 30s, highs in the 40s

So you probably thought I was just joking around when I said I was going to Yellowstone. Not so! I got back this past weekend from a week-long solo roadtrip out to the park. It was an amazing trip and I had a blast. Unfortunately I was not able to get to the Southern part of the park but I had a good time exploring the Lamar Valley, Mammoth Hot Springs and Norris Geyser Basin (see above photo). I meant to go further South in the park but both roads were blocked off so I headed East.

I went to Cody and the hot springs at Thermopolis, then visited Deer Creek Kennel in Glenrock, drove up to see Devil’s Tower (remember “Close Encounters”?) and then went to spend a couple of days in the Black Hills of South Dakota. I saw snowflakes while camping at Wind Cave National Park!

So, I didn’t get to spend as much time in Yellowstone as I wanted but I saw a lot!

Coming back to MCK was weird because I left in Summer and when I arrived back last weekend, Fall had come! Temps are colder, it’s raining and we are training hard. It was a bit of an adjustment coming off the road and back into kennel routine. But everybody is doing well and I am re-settling in and preparing for our rainy Season (which looks as if it has already begun!).
