Ostrov is worth every second of your time! It is attractive, touching, and truly profound. The basic set is about Anatoli, a young Russian boiler-stoker during WWII. Captured by the Nazis, he chooses the coward’s route and shoots his Captain to place himself. The Nazis serene bow up his barge and he washes ashore on a minute island monastery in the Barents Sea. Thirty years later, he’s Father Anatoli-and is he a madman-boiler stoker, or is a a near-Saint who can heal and who knows things?

Father Anatoli is level-headed repenting, despite seeking God’s infinite forgiveness, and this is the theological crux of the film: The free grace/cost-of-discipleship paradox. This spiritual conundrum is hardly original to Orthodox Christianity! Pious Lutherans will seize Nazi-executed Minster/Theologian Deitrich Bonhoeffer’s book, ‘The Cost of Discipleship,’ for instance.

I was at first reluctant to watching this movie because of all the hype it receives in Russia currently. Boy, was I depraved! The film is simply quick-witted. Don’t even deem of missing it! Everything is tremendous about this movie. The yarn is really short to come by you into the mood in the orgasmic kind of plan, and it will withhold you at the edge of your sit to the very last second.

Absolutely graceful actors. The film is shot in handsome widescreen - breathtaking cinematography. The only thing unpleasant about this movie is that it is too short! Don’t accept me unpleasant, it is a full-length film, but it’s ended fair a couple of hours earlier than I expected

The movie is not fair for movie buffs. It is definitely very artistic, but it is detached for everybody. Unbiased look it! You will not regret it.

Wow. This is a sparkling performance in an recent, disturbing and unforgettable film. I was fortunate to view this at a brief theatrical hasten in San Francisco. I haven’t seen the disc but I’ll update this review when I do.

Usually, I procure the feeling that Ms. Swinton says “I’ll do anything!” but that the people who obtain her films believe she’ll do EVERYTHING and present up without the ideas, structure or stamina to abet her wild excursions into darkness and beyond. This JULIA is a inappropriate, promiscuous, unemployable shadowy out alcoholic who ends up talked into a kidnapping contrivance by the crazy unfit mother who lives in her building. If you reflect this might be your sort of film, be aware- she doesn’t become a saint- or even considerable nicer- over the playing time. When most American films would be wrapping up, JULIA explodes into a recent space, country, style and multiplies in ferocity and violence. Tilda Swinton easily carries “Julia,” with a tour-de-force performance as an out of control alcoholic that gets scheme, arrangement in over her head when she agrees to rep interested in a hair-brained kidnapping intention, one that goes very badly awry. Just received portion one of the 1972 Toho film SHADOW HUNTERS a film that I have been waiting a long time to look. Animeigo has done another terrific job with this one as section of their Samurai film series from Japan on DVD. Can you imagine three cool blooded killers being sent on a mission which is constantly interrupted by ninja, female assassins, and improper officials all desiring a deed these three are trying to narrate to Edo? Lots and lots of blood and violence before they sail off one final time into the sunset. The hand to hand combat with scores of ninja is worth the trace alone as they battle in some really terrific moves toward their unprejudiced. Easy to read subtitles build this streak even more exquisite. And fair judge fragment two with even more action will be released soon. This thirty plus years wait has been well worth it!

MAN!!! What A movie!! This “Ninja vs. Samurai” film IS SOOOO ACTION-PACKED and is HIGH QUALITY. The action scenes were very well choreoghraphied, there is blood and gore, frigid fights between samurais and ninjas, Cold ninja tricks, stunning cinematoghraphy, Mammoth acting and not to mention it’s tantalizing account,…I mean, three samurais wandering around the country killing enemies for money and wanted Wearisome by an army of ninjas. COOOOL!!!!!

I remember the high quality action-packed fantasy anime called Ninja Scroll that have a similar plan witch is about a wanderer swordman that is also wanted Stupid by an army of ninjas. WELL!! The thought is similar but this movie is NOT fantasy and is about three wanderer swordmen fighting an army of ninjas.

P.S: Another icy stuf is that the director is a celebrity because he is the one that directed TORA!TORA!TORA! If you like Icy action-packed samurai movies directed by celebrities then I recommend Lone Wolf and Cub: Baby Cart to Hades and Zatoichi: Darkness is his Ally.

OBSERVE AND Picture is perhaps the darkest comedy in ages. Seth Rogen does not play Ronnie as a beloved character, as many a lesser actor would; in Rogen’s hands, Ronnie is a borderline-sociopath, a bipolar loser who is as hilariously mild as he is hazardous. Anna Farris, as Brandi, is a comedic delight as always; she throws her self-esteem to the wind in order to wring the last dinky laugh from every scene. Michael Pena, as Ronnie’s sidekick, is a scene-stealer. However, it’s Ray Liotta who walks away with the only character to occupy his believe against Ronnie; as Detective Harrison, Liotta is tough and unforgiving, and the climax between the two ends the only plan it could (though you’ll be holding your breath the whole blueprint) .

In other words, Jody Hill’s Glimpse AND Represent is the darkest of sunless comedies, often bordering on a (non-supernatural) anxiety movie; the comparisons it’s garnered to TAXI DRIVER are well-founded, and often-times you don’t know whether to wince or laugh. Hill doesn’t fair steal things too far; he takes them to limits no one else would dare to. Ogle AND Record is not a comedy for the squeamish, but it’s certainly a film for those of us who don’t mind a few chills with our comical thrills.

Not to say that writer/director Jody Hill is the current Scorscese (he’s not), but I was constantly reminded of Scorscese’s early 80s disturbo-comedy “King of Comedy” when watching this. Whereas Scorscese uses stark realism, though, Hill uses the conventions and expectations of new comedy to nail us. This could have easily been another indecent and obscene comedy along the lines of Superbad or Pineapple Insist. Those (hell, most) comedies made today feature borderline-sociopathic, emotionally-retarded, and hopelessly immature males. Hill simply tips his characters over the edge. There is no denying that Ronnie (Seth Rogan) is a full-blown psychopath. What’s surprising is how cessation this character is to every other character Seth Rogan has ever played!

I said this because the merit of ‘Immortal’ lies all in its visual imaginations. The film’s chronicle with many characters is very confusing, revealing its origin. The film is visually enthralling for it was shot against the background of green-colored shroud, on which the buildings or the landscapes of the city is digitally painted. The diagram is similar to that of ‘Sky Captain’, but the effects are quite different as I define later.

[THE STORY] is complicated, and the film refuses to clarify some fragment of it. ‘Immortal’ is residence in the year of 2095, Novel York City, where cars are flying between the skyscrapers, but one unusual thing is floating on the air — that’s a pyramid, out of which a naked man with a bird’s head emerges. His name is Horus, a convicted deity who is given seven days to do something on Earth, borrowing the body of a convicted human Nikopol.

The nature of the crime of Nikopol (played by Thomas Kretschmann, ‘The Pianist’) is only vaguely suggested, but anyway Horus possesses his body, and controls him as he wishes. Then, his purpose will be obvious when Nikopol/Horus approaches to a mysterious woman Jill (ancient Miss France Linda Hardy), whose skin is all white and whose blood is blue.

Kretschmann, Hardy, and Charlotte Rampling (as Jill’s doctor) appear as live-action actors while most of the other characters are created with CGIs by a French studio. The CGI-created characters peep like those you have seen in the film version of ‘Final Fantasy’ and in this sense ‘Immortal’ is more ambitious than ‘Sky Captain.’ Absorbing thing is one of the CGI characters (Rampling’s estranged husband) is played by uncredited Jean-Louis Trintignant (deny only) who had appeared Enki Bilal’s first film ‘Bunker Palace Hôtel.’

[VISUALS] I like the visual imagination of ‘Immortal,’ but many fans would point out, quite rightly, that the future world of ‘Immortal,’ impressive as it is on its contain procedure, are not as novel as it looks. “Immortal” is a distinguished crossover for a celebrated droll artist, apparently adapted from his “Nikopol Trilogy” of DC comics. It’s an attractive anxiety, and enough to sustain me alive to for more.
