Thundercats was one of the best shows to arrive out of the 80s (Transformers being at the top), and one every fan has been eagerly awaiting to hit DVD.

Months ago, WB finally announced they would be releasing the series in a total of four box sets (33/32/33/32), which had everyone cheering for the return of one of their favories shows, in top notch DVD quality. Most of all, they were given a SRP of $64.99, thus guaranteeing the episodes must be remastered. Unfortunately, this is not the case.
For a SRP of $64.99, you procure 33 episodes on six discs, but without any remastering done whatsoever. What was WB thinking? Not only do the episodes perceive like they were dumped down from VHS tapes (giving it a bootleg quality appearance), but there are a mass amount of errors throughout the episodes themselves. One of the major issues is with the second episode, “Unholy Alliance,” which is missing all of the music (sans the opening and closing) during the episodes. However, this is only the case in the English track as both the Spanish and French versions have the music playing. Whatever the reason is, this is totally unacceptable. Hopefully WB will train a rob and offer replacement discs.

The next negative to this spot is that it is definitely no where come woth a SRP of $64.99. Yes, you can remove them cheaper online or at a retail store, but if you pay more than $30-35 for this site, then you were impartial ripped off. You could assume a DVD-R bootleg (not that you should) off ebay of the entire series in the same quality (if not better) for $15 more.
With other 80’s shows, coming out (or have already been released) with a fair remastered print, and 5.1 audio, this makes this rob even worse than it seemed before. Why couldn’t WB let Rhino handle this? Rhino may have their bear faults, but at least they know how to NOT mess up a release THIS poor. Not to mention Rhino would have remastered the prints and mastera a 5.1 track, while this fair has a less-than-satisfying-and-boring mono soundtrack.
So if you have not bought this space yet, maintain off until WB fixes the set’s glitches or lowers the SRP. Also, let’s hope they do a great better job with Volume 2 when it comes out in Dec than they did with this. I adore Thundercats, I am gay to absorb it on DVD and replace my tapes from Toonami, however, the imprint is unacceptable for a crappy release as this.
WB, Thundercats deserves to be treated fair with respect as you have done so with Looney Tunes, and as mighty as Rhino did so with Transformers!
At long last, the DVD station we’ve all been waiting for since 1985: Thunder-Thunder-Thunder-ThunderCats! I don’t have to say you the ThunderCats was/is/and always will be the absolute finest involving series ever produced. Unfortunately, however, this release comes with a couple of flaws. On the plus side, the situation consists of 6 single-sided discs - not those hated “flippers” as originally reported. The box/case art is sensational; you’ll be proud to exhibit this on your DVD shelf. The narrate quality is attractive generous most of the time; the mono sound is objective OK. BUT, the most distinguished episodes in the series, the first and the second, are botched! In the early piece of “Exodus,” the recount sort of starts to roll for a few seconds while Jaga is talking to Lion-O after the destruction of Thundera. This alone is enough to perform a person assume they’ve got a unfavorable disc, but the most jarring glitch doesn’t exhibit up till the second episode (for which NO TITLE appears on the cloak) . Yes, fellow super-fans, it appears that Monkian was at the controls during the transfer of “Unholy Alliance” from VHS to DVD, as the version presented here is TOTALLY devoid of the familiar ThunderCat background music! Unbelievably, the very first time we visit the tomb of the dreaded Mumm-Ra…the very first time we scrutinize his horrific transformation from his decayed earn to the hideous “Ever Living Source of Atrocious”…the very first time he’s sent screaming and crying assist to his irascible sarcophagus by the worthy Lord of the ThunderCats and his mystic Sword of Omens …we hear NO MUSIC! If you want to hear background music during “Unholy Alliance,” you must either A: Choose the Spanish-language track, B: Bewitch the French-language track, or C: Telephone Will Wheaton and his tone-deaf friends and ask them to advance over to your house and protest the ThunderCats theme out of tune for you while you notice! This is an outrage! My video-taped version of “Unholy Alliance” (which I recorded from Cartoon Network a few years befriend) has background music, and my video-taped version of “Exodus” doesn’t have a rolling recount after Thundera’s destruction; why should the DVD version have these problems? With tall trepidation, I watched the other 31 episodes in this status and found no major abnormalities, aside from an occasional lack of smoothness in the animation and some grain here and there. Of course all the episodes are CLASSIC, and feature legendary characters like the Berbils; the Warrior Maidens; the Brute Men; the Unicorn Keepers; Snowman and Snowmeow; Hammer Hand; Ratar-O; Wizz-Ra; Mongor; Grune the Destroyer; Hachiman; Safari Joe; Dr. Dometome; Posthaste Pick; Captain Cracker; and Mandora the Heinous Chaser…unprejudiced to name a few. I firmly hold that every man, woman, and child in the world should glance at least one episode of the ThunderCats every single day for their entire lives; that’s why everyone needs to assume this area…despite the aforementioned glitches. I also contemplate that everyone who buys this location should call, write or e-mail Warner Bros. and Inquire Of a corrected version of disc 1. HOOOOOOOOOO!
