As a matter of practical application, for a typical subwoofer crossover at 120 Hz, one wavelength of sound will be 9.4 feet long. For every 9.4 feet of distance difference between main speakers and the subwoofer from the listening position, there will be a 360 degree (i.e., one wavelength) phase shift. If the distance difference is half this, or 4.7 feet, then the main speakers and subwoofer will be out of phase by 180 degrees, thereby creating an audible notch at the crossover frequency.

Francis Ford Coppola and Paramount Home Entertainment held a press conference and street delicate in Brooklyn, and yours truly was there! The appealing news, of course, was announcing the release of THE GODFATHER DVD COLLECTION on October 9, 2001! If the preview of the plot is any indication, then I must say this will be the crown jewel in any DVD collection!

The three films will only be released together in this state. The Godfather and The Godfather Fraction III will each be on one disc, and The Godfather Fragment II will acquire two discs. The first of the helpful news? Francis Coppola has recorded full-lenth audio commentaries for all three films!

The represent quality looked unbelievable — Coppola’s American Zoetrope did a unbelievable job restoring the films! From what I could hiss, the sound quality was perfect, and the on-screen menus looked sizable. And the DVD packaging looks very nice.

All three films are in widescreen format with English 5.1 surround sound, French mono, and English subtitles.

Perhaps the only “abominable” news I heard was that there were no plans at this point to release the chronological version on DVD. Francis said that the films were meant to be seen with the flashbacks, and I tend to agree. The biggest plus of having The Godfather Trilogy or Yarn on tape, or watching The Godfather Saga on TV, was all the extra footage included. Well, the bonus disc in The Godfather DVD Collection contains “all” of the extra footage, and even something we’ve never seen anywhere before: an alternate opening for The Godfather Portion III. Francis didn’t give a firm “no” though; he cited technical reasons for not being able to include all the extra footage on DVD: the different scenes are in various levels of production (”they weren’t mixed and scored”), making it difficult to add them seemlessly with today’s technology. Maybe, but they seemed to be okay in the boxed sets and on TV to me.

Do yourself a favor and order the biggest DVD release of all time!

This is gonna be titanic!! I can’t wait! Amazon doesn’t inform you what you’re getting, so here is the scoop as I know it …

The Godfather Trilogy is ONLY going to be released as a box station! (though I suspect that down the road you will be able to hold them individually)

The trilogy will accelerate across four discs, with GODFATHER II on two discs, and all are in anamorphic widescreen with running audio commentary from Francis Ford Coppola.

The fifth disc will feature 3+ hours worth of bonus material, including Coppola’s notebook on adapting the Mario Puzo new for the mask

My son is 3 and a gigantic fan of Jay Jay the Jet Plane. I purchased this DVD because it has a memoir we had already seen and liked, Jay Jay and the Magic Books. To those fresh to Jay Jay the Jet Plane, each episode features computer intelligent airplanes with human faces. Jay Jay and his friends have the voices of children, and ther are also “adult” planes who offer guidance. Human characters (not engaging) also interact with the planes. Every episode features a song.

Unfortunately, after a few viewings of this video, my son became bored with it. Personally, I believe the quality of the writing and human character acting is variable. Another disappointment for my son is that Revvin’ Evan isn’t featured in any of the stories, although he is misleadingly shown on the hide of the disk next to the two Pangabula Island stories. So, I have to define time after time to my son that Evan isn’t in the video.

TRIP TO SKYLANDIA: Jay Jay chooses faith over logic when a dream about a kingdom in the clouds convinces him that it’s staunch. The plane characters appear in the dream with different names and “costumes.” This chronicle seems better superior to one of the Inspirational Jay Jay collections, and is not a advantageous introduction to the series because of the character name changes.

JAY JAY’S BUTTERFLY ADVENTURE: Jay Jay tries to collect a winter home for Breezy the Butterfly, only to learn with relief that he already has one. Cute epic with some correct info about monarch butterflies. Brenda Blue is annoyingly dismissive of Jay Jay’s questions about Breezy-my only true gripe.

JAY JAY AND THE MAGIC BOOKS: Jay Jay and Tracy expend a rainy day at the library. Jay Jay learns that you can go on an adventure without even leaving home. Both underwater and outer spot stories are included, and the featured song is very soothing. The librarian is hearing impaired, so imprint language is featured. This is peaceful my son’s approved episode.

TUFFY’S Slip TO PANGABULA: Tuffy straps on a balloon to skim to Pangabula Island and join his friends. She can’t steer so Captain Wentworth and her boat approach to the rescue. Tuffy then returns the favor. This episode is marred by the appearance of Mr. Crabby, the first mate to Captain Wentworth. Mr. Crabby is supposed to be like Gilligan, but is more annoying than comic.

TUFFY’S ADVENTURE IN PANGABULA: Tuffy has a difficult time getting around on an island that has no roads. But she saves the day by rescuing the Sparkleberry tree. The premise of a sacred tree that likes to be harvested is a diminutive overdone. The human actor in this tale portrays a stereotyped Pacific Islander.

Nothing gets killed or blows up. Profitable life lessons and spacious characters. I was proud to be a joystick-animator on this series.

This is great, fun, inviting entertainment for the pre-school crowd with a minimum of violence. After my daughter watched this DVD a few times, she began speaking in a British accent. It was cute, yet creepy. Mild, I catch it over the Boston accent she sometimes has when she returns home from school, “we did some drawrings and then we played in the pahk.”

Kipper and his buddies Tiger, Pig, and Arnold, trip about in a genial, self-amused manner, often chuckling infectiously to themselves about their mildly roguish adventures. There are occasional moments of slapstick comedy but it is high on cuteness, obscene on angst and violence. In my well-liked episode, a particularly surreal one, Kipper and Pig sight the sky traveling around on the clouds. Then, it begins to rain and they plummet out of the sky. Their descend is broken as they bounce gently off the belly of a sunbathing Tiger. Tiger flinches as each of them bounces and emits a crude “ooph.” I can’t do it justice, but it’s as amusing as any Bugs Bunny slapstick moment, but with out the cruel and sadistic flavor. My daughter was alone in the room watching it and I heard her burst into laughter. I ran in to gape and we ended up looping the gag, watching it over and over and laughing harder each time. Profitable times.

The drawings are simple but heady. The backgrounds are understated yet sharp watercolors. Your viewing experience is enhanced by a noodly icy jazz tinkering soundtrack.

Seven more episodes of Kipper the Dog, who woefully, is no longer on TV. The episodes include Clouds, Water, Water Everywhere, The Farm, Crazy Golf, The Rescue, Arnold on Wheels, and The Run. Always detached and soothing for the miniature ones. In this hectic world, minute children need all the Kipper they can collect! Definitely one of Hayley Mills best films. Her fans definitely care for it. Burl Ives, Dorothy McGuire, and Michael Pollard are astounding in their roles as well as Hayley. The sets and music are delectable in this movie about an earlier time when life was simpler and although keen, worthy kinder. Hayley does a exquisite job playing a young lady that is always beefy of optimism. In some respects like the optimism of Bing Crosby in “The Bells of St. Mary’s”. She charms her plan to bag what she wants. This color movie doesn’t seem to age, since if you didn’t know when it was made, you would contemplate it could have been recently. Amazingly families today tranquil regain this an scrumptious movie, but then it is an extraordinary movie. Tubby of warmth and values of the heart. I recommend it to all, but especially to anyone that enjoys the older Disney classics.

When Disney studios brought together a talented cast, a simple but effective script, and their family oriented production values, the result was often magic. Such was the case with this film, one of Hayley Mills’ best.

When we join the movie the Carey family is under difficult times. Margaret Carey’s (Dorothy McGuire) husband has recently passed away. Stock investments made by Mr. Carey have added to the family’s fiscal woes. As Mrs. Carey struggles to figure out how the family will survive, headstrong Nancy Carey (Mills) has taken matters into her have hands by writing to Mr. Ossium “Osh” Popham (Burl Ives in one of his best roles) to ask whether a positive yellow house was available for rent. That Nancy exaggerated the extent of the family’s financial need is temporarily overlooked, but not forgotten. Mr. Popham is more than gay to serve the family and invites them to disappear into the yellow house for a modest rent.

The yellow house turns out to need a delicate amount of work to beget it livable, and Osh, who is also the owner of the local general store, continues to help the Careys as they manufacture improvements. We soon catch out that Osh has not communicated with the owner of the house, Tom Hamilton (Peter Brown), with respect to all the various happenings related to the yellow house, and we know that at some point there will likely near a reckoning.

Adding to the family oriented fun is younger brother Peter Carey (Jimmy Mathers), who finds a creative arrangement to collect his hair gash, and then adopts a dog for the family. Cousin Julia Carey (Deborah Walley) is forced to recede in with the Carey’s due to financial circumstances with the family she has been living. That well-to-do family and their lifestyle causes a lot of stress in the financially strapped Carey family as Julia tends to mention them far too mighty.

Other supporting cast members include Una Merkel as Mariah Popham and Michael J. Pollard as Digby Popham. Michael also appeared in an episode of the fresh “Star Trip” television series.

The movie is somewhat anachronistic as feminism is equated with hiding your honest self, particularly in the quest for seeking a husband. Yet, with that same definition of feminism we contemplate strong female roles for Dorothy McGuire and Hayley Mills, so the relatively aged attitude towards feminism is tempered somewhat.

As with any Disney movie, the realities of life are not completely ignored, and the long-absent Tom Hamilton finally shows up. While the difficult dispute of what Mr. Hamilton will do with a family that has become somewhat of a squatter in his house, the ending does provide hope that all will turn out well in spite of Nancy’s fears of the “yellow pain.”

This movie has a few brief moments that may tinge on unsuitability for younger audiences, but parents should be able to clarify those situations. Otherwise, I believe this movie obliging for families including even the youngest children. This movie is a winner that any family will glean to be an top-notch addition to their video collection.

Great laptop for the money!
We’ve had it for a couple weeks now. Purchased it for both business use, and media . So far, absolutely no complaints. It’s super fast, the picture is amazing - really clear. The sound is excellent, and gets way louder than any other computer I’ve used w/out any distortion. The touch pad is very user freindly, and having the 10 key is a huge bonus for business use. Windows 7 is much easier to network than Vista.

Nice, fast, great color, great sound
I helped buy this for a friend that was replacing a 4 year old laptop. So far this was a great choice. Have only had this for a month but so far my friend likes most of all the features this offers. The only complaint sofar was with this new gesture touch pad. It can be more of a problem then helpful. I believe I will turn it off if I can.

Redemption
Well a few years ago, I purchased an Aspire One 10.1″ Netbook, and if you’re big into netbooks, you’ll know that this specific line of D150s had a fan problem. The fan is loud. However, I was very pleased with everything else (I am currently typing this review on it, and I use it at school every day). But enough about that, this is about the Aspire 5542-5206.

As far as I’m concerned, many people have had problems with Acer’s customer service, and unfortunately, I’m pretty good with computers and have never needed any customer service. And, if you are pretty good with computers, you’ll know that if it has the specs you want, you really can’t go wrong. So, I have no opinion as far as customer service goes. This computer has all the specs I wanted, well within the budged I set for it. After much research on the internet (yeah, I call it “blind shopping”), I kept ending up back at this one. But on to the computer.

The computer comes with an AMD Turion 2.2 GHz processor, 4 GB memory (667 MHz), 320 GB HDD (I’m more of a SSD fan, myself), and ATI Radeon HD 4200 (which is the 785G Chipset) graphics. If you’re a hardcore gamer (which I’m not), this may not be the computer for you. It runs games very smoothly at high quality, however if you want the absolute highest quality for the most modern games, I wouldn’t settle for any less than 1 GB discrete VRAM. However, if you are a casual gamer like myself, this is perfect, especially for the price. I am quite the fan of AMD (nothing against Intel, it’s just that AMD usually crams in a better graphics chip/card for the same price, if not less).

And since I’m probably running out of space here, let me conclude that this laptop is of very high quality (again, for the price), and clearly outperforms most other laptops in the same range. Acer really redeemed themselves this time.

I read Mr. Maltin’s brief review and was astonished that somebody who is in the business of reviewing films could so easily write this movie off. This film is hilarious; it has an innocence that we don’t gaze mighty anymore. Don Knotts was a comedic genius, I’d without hesitation achieve him on a par with Charlie Chaplin, Laurel and Hardy, The Three Stooges, Jim Carey. He plays the nerdly goofball brilliantly, and we can all contemplate a bit of ourselves in his various awkward moments. This movie skillfully mocks the Frosty War tension with it’s parody of the Area Urge, and there’s even a exiguous romance as Don lusts for a beauty who barely acknowledges his existence until she hears that he’s going to be an astronaut. The soundtrack is stout as well, very joyful stuff and it reminds me of the traditional Sunday night Disney show’s music.

My wife and I watched this on Septemeber 15, 2001, four days after September 11, 2001. It was exactly the brand for helping us to forget for a moment the ugliness of the trusty world.

I’ve never been very impressed by Mr. Maltin. He gives terse conclusions which are unsubstantiated by specific references. I’m 41 years worn and this movie entertained me like few others. Don Knotts is an undervalued classic; my bet is that after he passes away there will be a gargantuan revival for his work.

Once again Leonard Maltin is infamous, despicable, atrocious (glimpse above) . You either like Don Knotts or you don’t. For those who do, and there are millions of us, his comedies from the 1960s like “The Reluctant Astronaut” are very provocative, and, yes, very comical films.

I grew up in the 1960s and “The Reluctant Astronaut” was another of those Don Knott’s comedies that the whole family was taken to the drive-in theatre on a Friday night. For Leonard Maltin to call this childish is an unfair statement. I’m almost forty now and I peaceful Treasure watching this movie as every bit as I did assist in ‘67. I would never pay a dime to sight Leonard Maltin act and I always turn the channel whenever he comes on television with one of his one sided reviews.

What is funnier than seeing Knott’s up in plot opening a special can that shoots out peanut butter and then proceeds to do a dance around him like a snake? I am on the floor rolling! And who would ever deem that Leslie Nielsen would ever become the icon for 90s comedies that he has today? He is very straight in this film which gives the film balance.

They don’t movies like this anymore. I highly recomend this video. Steal it now before it goes out of print.
